Rapper DMX Indicted for Identity Theft
Legal trouble continues to mount for rap star DMX. The rapper, whose real name is Earl Simmons, has been indicted by an Arizona grand jury for using someone else's name at a Scottsdale hospital in an effort to get out of paying the bill.He was indicted on one count of theft and one count of taking someone else's identity.
Maricopa County Attorney Andrew Thomas said the rapper went to the Mayo Clinic in Scottsdale in April and told them his name was "Troy Jones." He also gave the clinic a phony social security number. Thomas said he used the name in order to receive healthcare services without paying the $7,500 bill.
DMX was arrested Saturday at a Phoenix mall and released from the Maricopa County jail Sunday night.
Long List of Legal Problems
Simmons has a long arrest record and served a short term in prison for violating his probation. He was released December 30, 2005.
He is currently facing drug charges in Phoenix and Miami. He is also facing animal cruelty charges in Arizona. He has pleaded not guilty in May to the animal cruelty charges and felony drug possession.
On June 25, he was arrested in Miami on an outstanding warrant for having no valid driver's license. Then on June 30, he was arrested after he tried to buy drugs from an undercover Miami policeman.
